Nick Houghton - Bio

From an early age, music was everything to Nick. He spent countless hours mastering his favourite tracks, creating his own riffs, and honing his skills through endless practice. Playing in bands, performing live, and jamming with fellow musicians were the moments he lived for.

But as life moved on, that creative spark began to fade. While the guitar remained a constant passion, songwriting took a back seat, and for years, Nick believed that was just part of growing older. Yet, every time he picked up his guitar to play someone else’s music, there was a lingering sense of something missing.

Determined to reignite that creative fire, Nick challenged himself to start writing again in late 2023. At first, it felt unfamiliar—like lacing up running shoes after years of being out of practice—but as time passed, his songwriting instincts returned. Slowly but surely, the songs began to flow.

Some of the tracks on The Reckoning had been waiting in the wings for years, even decades, but the majority were written over an intense 18-month period—a creative resurgence that felt like an unexpected oasis in a long creative drought. The songs weave between storytelling and personal reflection, with some told from the perspective of imagined characters, while others come from a much deeper place. Even in the most fictionalised narratives, there’s always a thread of truth running through them.

Nick knows The Reckoning isn’t some groundbreaking masterpiece. It may never find a huge audience. But that doesn’t matter—because he loves it. He knows, without a doubt, that this is the very best album he could have made. He couldn’t have written better songs, performed them any more honestly, or recorded them any differently. This is him, laid bare, in the best way he knows how.

Whether listeners connect with The Reckoning or not, one thing is certain: somewhere out there, there’s a middle-aged musician who loves it to bits.
